Your activities begin on Thursday evening at the opulent Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts where the National Symphony Orchestra will perform two outstanding musical works: Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #4 in G Major, and Symphony #5 in D Minor by the 20th century master, Dmitri Shostakovich.
Friday will be a day of fine arts and theater. You begin with a guided tour of the special exhibit Homer, Eakins and Bellows: American Paintings, 1870–1925 at the National Gallery of Art and, as evening falls, you settle into your seat at the Shakespeare Theatre Company for William Congreve’s comedy, The Way of the World. The afternoon is yours to use as you wish.
Saturday is entirely unscheduled so you may customize your trip by visiting those places in Washington, DC that interest you. But no matter how you choose to spend your day, it will conclude in elegant fashion at the Washington National Opera for George Bizet’s beautiful opera, The Pearl Fishers.
On Sunday morning, we shift our attention to our national history as we cross the Potomac River and head into the Pennsylvania countryside for a guided tour of one of the most hallowed landscapes in America: the Civil War battlefield at Gettysburg. With comfortable transportation and an expert lecturer sharing a story like no other, this day is certain to be a powerful exclamation point on your trip.
While in the city, you will be lodged in the elegant and conveniently located One Washington Circle Hotel, enjoying easy access to all of the city’s monuments and museums, as well as historic Georgetown.

Morning—The group flies to Washington, DC and transfers to One Washington Circle Hotel. The rest of the afternoon is unscheduled.
Evening—Tonight, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, you enjoy one of the world’s great orchestras as the National Symphony Orchestra performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #4 with Helene Grimaud on the piano, and Symphony #5 by Dmitri Shostakovich conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
Friday, October 3
Morning—Your day begins with a guided tour of the special exhibit Homer, Eakins and Bellows: American Paintings, 1870–1925 at the National Gallery of Art.
Afternoon—Enjoy another unscheduled afternoon to do as you please in our nation’s capitol.
Evening—Tonight’s play is the hilarious Restoration comedy by William Congreve, The Way of the World, performed by the Shakespeare Theatre Company.
Saturday, October 4
Morning /Afternoon—Today is entirely unscheduled so that you may plan your activities to suit your interests.
Evening—You rejoin the group tonight for another performance at the Kennedy Center as the Washington National Opera presents The Pearl Fishers, by George Bizet.
Sunday, October 5
Today we head back in time for a guided visit to one of our nation’s most important monuments: the Civil War battlefield at Gettysburg. A full day of American history ends at the Reagan National Airport for our flight home.
